2023 Strength & Ultra Running (50-100km)

Please note that the strength training in this program can only be performed in a gym that comprises resistance machines. A rack and a barbell are not sufficient.

An online concurrent 16 Week Strength Training & Ultra Trail Running program with a focus on improving overall strength, durability and speed over distances of 50-100km. Fully interactive with video demonstrations of all drills and lifts, your workouts can be uploaded either daily or weekly with the option of keeping notes for each workout and uploading data from your choice of running tech. Once you have specified your start date you will have access to the full program both online and contained within a PDF document attached to your welcome email.

Please bear in mind that ultra races are very different beasts to road marathons in terms of programming, due to varying lengths, terrain and altitude. When performing your long runs, please make these as specific to the terrain you will be facing as possible.

The running element is provided by Coach Holly Rush, GB athlete, Commonwealth Games Competitor and Ultra Distance Trail and Mountain Runner. The strength work is programmed by BPU British Powerlifting Record Holder and Ultra Distance Endurance Athlete, Coach Pete Stables.

Each week consists of 2 gym-based strength training sessions focussed on both compound machine based movements and unilateral, balance-specific exercises. The training is designed in line with the most up to date research regarding volume & intensity and also on our own anecdotal experience based on working with multiple athletes over many years. On top of this, the program comprises 6 running days. These are a combination of rep, tempo, long slow distance and easy runs/cross training sessions.

Upon payment, you will receive two emails within the following 24 hours. The first will include your pdf copy of the program. The second is an invite to set up your Truecoach account. Once training begins you will have access to the program for 16 consecutive weeks.
